When’s the best time to visit Llanerch vineyard?

Llanerch is nestled in the heart of the beautiful South Wales countryside so whatever time of year you decide to visit you will always be greeted by incredible views and a warm Welsh welcome (or ‘croeso’). Each season in the vineyard offers something unique and special and it is always an unforgettable experience.

  • Summer

Summer

You can bask in the sun alongside our grapes at Llanerch in the summer. In warmer months, you can enjoy alfresco dining or drinks on our outdoor terrace in front of the vineyard. This popular suntrap lets you admire the vineyard’s beauty up close whilst enjoying a glass of something cold from our extensive wine and drinks menu.

At this time of year, you’ll see our grapes continue to grow and rich, green leaves fill in the vineyard, creating a stunning landscape set against the beautiful Welsh countryside.

In Llanerch Restaurant, our fresh summer menu will be bursting with seasonal ingredients like cherries, raspberries and beetroot, all sourced locally.

For the very best views, grab a drink from the bar and head up to our rooftop terrace offering an incredible vista over the vineyard and surrounding woodland. It’s also a great place to shelter from any summer showers too, as it is covered for use all-year round.

Autumn

This time of year is particularly special at Llanerch Vineyard as it’s grape harvest season. Our favourite time of the year and the best time to visit our vineyard.

Every September and October, at just the right moment, our teams start the job of hand-picking our grapes ready for them to be produced into the beautiful wines you can enjoy in our restaurant, bar or from our online shop.

If you’re joining us during the season, you might be lucky enough to witness our traditional harvest first-hand. Our teams hand-pick up to 18 tonnes of grapes during the season.

Harvest days change each year. That’s because we need to pick the grapes at exactly the right time, when their sugar and acid levels peak, in order to produce the best wine. Our different varieties will also ripen at slightly different times, so our harvest is usually staggered over several days or weeks.

The vineyard is at its fullest and most beautiful during the autumn with its vines bursting with fat, ripe grapes and bountiful green leaves. It is one of the best times to visit. The countryside surrounding the vineyard looks incredible in the autumn, full of oranges, browns and greens, offering magnificent views from many of our rooms and our rooftop terrace.

A wine tasting and vineyard tour in the autumn is a must.

Winter

Winter at Llanerch is magical. It’s a beautiful and romantic time of year to visit the vineyard. Wrap up warm and explore the frosty vineyard and enchanting woodlands surrounding the hotel, enjoy a hearty and delicious dinner and have drinks in front of the roaring fire before cosying up in one of our luxurious rooms.

Our restaurant menus are bursting with festive flavours at this time of year, including traditional roasts and other Christmas favourites, as well as delicious seasonal dishes created with the finest locally sourced produce. Even our restaurant tree has a festive makeover in keeping with the season, with branches of green and red holly replacing the autumn flowers.

Join us for Christmas events for all the family, including our popular Afternoon Tea with Santa.
